Ukraine’s state-owned operator Energotam said Russian officials were doing everything they could to prevent an International Atomic Energy Agency mission from learning about the true status of Russian-controlled power plants.

In a statement, the company said Moscow had spread false information about the trip. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspection team arrived at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine last Thursday afternoon. A UN expert team went there amid shelling and fighting between the two sides.

Russia has been in possession of Europe’s largest nuclear power plant since March. Russia and Ukraine have been blaming each other for shelling around it. In this situation, it is feared that a radiation accident like Chernobyl may occur.
