Explaining that Russia continues to buy goods despite Western sanctions, Delhi said it was buying Russian goods as part of diversifying its supply. Their argument is that if they suddenly stop buying Russian goods, the prices of goods in the world market will go up further and Indian consumers will suffer.

In this regard, US officials have said that there are no sanctions on India for importing fuel products from Russia. But they do not want India to “accelerate” the purchase of that product.

European traders, however, have not yet stopped importing goods from Moscow. But India has increased imports of goods a lot, even as transport costs have risen due to record oil prices, and they are importing huge quantities of goods from Russia.

As of last Wednesday, India had increased its purchases of coal and coal products from Russia by six times in 20 days, compared to the same period last year, according to some documents obtained by Reuters from India. In terms of money, which is more than 331 million US dollars.

India has also increased its oil purchases from Russia. In the 20 days since last Wednesday, the country has bought 31 times more oil than last year. More than 202 crore 20 million US dollars in money.
