Some parts of this region have three consecutive months of sunshine. At this time the sun does not set below the horizon line. Again, the sun does not rise above the horizon for about three months of the year. So during this time the inhabitants of this region live their lives through continuous nights. At that time, the local government arranged artificial lighting throughout the city. This place is called Alaska.
This Alaska once belonged to Russia, Russia sold it to the United States. Alaska, with an area of about seven hundred thousand square miles, became the 49th state of the United States on January 3, 1959. Although it is a state in the United States, the distance from Alaska to the Russian mainland is only 55 miles or 88 kilometers. In the 19th century, Alaska was ruled by the Russian Empire. Russia originally colonized the region in the 18th century.
In the second half of the 19th century, the Russian Empire’s coffers were reduced to almost nothing while paying for the Crimean War. Russian Emperor Alexander II decided to sell Alaska to shore up the royal coffers after being officially defeated in that war.
According to that decision, Russia sold the entire Alaska to the United States for only 72 million US dollars. That is, in 1872, Washington spent only 2 cents per acre of land in Alaska. According to the current market value, the price of Alaska at that time was only 1.35 million US dollars and the price of land per acre was 37 cents. The interesting thing is that about 50 thousand billion US dollars worth of fuel oil is being exported from this Alaska every year.
The area of Alaska was 5,86,412 square miles (1.5 million 18 thousand square kilometers). With the purchase of Alaska, this huge area was added to the American territory and the size of America increased. At that time, the population of Alaska was a little less than seven and a half million. An average of one person lived in every two square kilometers. The population is so low because most of the region is covered by glaciers, rugged mountains, volcanoes and forests. A total of 17 National Parks in Alaska have been established to preserve this natural beauty. No other state in the United States has so many national parks.
Tricolor bears can be seen in this one place of the world
Among them, the polar bear, a terrestrial predator, is pale white. Koryak and polar bears are brown in color. The black bear known as the king of bears can also be seen in this area. After the sale of Alaska, hundreds of thousands of Russian families and citizens living there decided to return to their motherland, Russia. However, some (Russian) people did not leave Alaska.
No natural resources were discovered in Alaska until the sale. Later many valuable natural resources were discovered. Shortly after the Alaska Purchase, America experienced great economic success in Alaska. Fisheries, fur trade and leather trade also continued to flourish. Only a few years after the purchase of Alaska, America made a lot of money exporting seal skins. Those skins were sent to London, the capital of England. However, this trade did not last long as America seized 150 British ships and this led to conflict between the two countries. A large amount of natural resources were discovered in the US-owned Alaska. Among them are forest resources and animal resources. Moreover, several gold mines were discovered. Some oil wells are found here.
Alaskans are forced to export to meet their daily needs of food, clothing and even basic necessities. There is hardly any arable land here. Due to the cold climate in the isolated areas, cultivation is not easy at all. That’s why the price of daily necessities here is quite high – much more than in New York. However, since Alaska’s income is very high, this additional expenditure does not harm Alaska. A family in this region has an average annual expenditure of 55 thousand US dollars and an income of about 80 thousand US dollars.
Historically, this state has the highest temperature in July. It falls to the lowest level in January. The average temperature in July is 10 to 25 degrees Celsius. The temperature in January is minus 5 to minus 15 degrees Celsius. The highest temperature ever recorded in Alaska was on June 27, 1945. The temperature recorded that day in the Fort Yukon area was 38 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature is minus 62 degrees Celsius. This temperature was recorded on January 25, 1971 at Prospect Tree.
Paved roads do not last more than a few months here due to excess snow. So airplane or boat is more suitable for travel to Alaska. 35% of this area is ideal for seaplanes capable of taking off on water.
