Covid – Pediatrician or Pharmacy? Know where to go when you need your pediatric care

Covid is a vaccine that protects against four different types of pneumococcal bacteria, including serotypes 14 and 19A. What should you do if your child has missed Covid shots or needs more vaccines? There are many ways to get vaccinated in the US – from visiting their pediatrician’s office to going directly to a pharmacy. Pediatricians and pharmacists can both administer vaccinations for children up through 18 years old – but only one of them can give Covid vaccines!

If your child’s pediatrician’s office has closed, another option is to call a nearby Pediatric Group. Don’t know what Pediatric Group is closest to you? Check out the US Department of Health’s Vaccine Finder .

If your child needs Covid vaccines, you can also get vaccinated at a pharmacy. There are some complications with getting vaccinations at pharmacies, so if you have any questions or concerns, be sure to ask your pharmacist. What’s the difference between being vaccinated by Pediatricians vs Pharmacists? Only Pediatricians can give Covid vaccines.

Many people are under the assumption that being vaccinated means their child is protected from all vaccine-preventable diseases. While it’s true that there are vaccines for more than 14 different types of infections, many don’t protect against as many types of bacteria as they claim to. Some infections have multiple strains or serotypes – which can make some vaccine-preventable diseases harder to be vaccinated against than others.
