The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said Ukraine’s grid now had to rely on a reserve line to supply electricity from the plant, Europe’s largest.
Ukraine and Russia have repeatedly blamed each other for the bombing of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant. On Thursday, IAEA inspectors reached the nuclear power plant amid security concerns.
They said that the Russian army is using it as a military base. Working there with Ukrainian workers at gunpoint.
An IAEA statement said the presence of its experts in nuclear power plants has acted as a ‘game changer’. Through this they got fast and reliable information about the latest events.
“Senior Ukrainian officials told agency experts that the fourth supply line of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant with a capacity of 750 kilovolts has been disabled,” the statement said.
Fuel is being supplied to the grid through reserve lines of 330/750 kV capacity. Electricity can be supplied from nuclear power plants if required.
Russia did not comment on the IAEA’s statement.
Ukraine’s state nuclear company said separately that only one of the plant’s six reactors is operational.
Ukraine’s state-run nuclear power plant operator Enerhotam said reactor No. 5 of the nuclear power plant had to be disconnected from the grid.
It has been resisted.
